Journaling for Athletes
Hit record on the way home and talk about how it went. Athlenote writes it down, keeps every session in one place, and your mentor sends back a question worth thinking about.
Get AthlenoteStarted nervous and rushed my first few decisions. Once I stopped thinking about the mistake and focused on the next moment, it came back.
You caught the nerves early and got back into it by focusing on the next moment. What will you tell yourself before the next game starts?
Talk it through, or write it down
The best journal is the one you keep coming back to. If you already write in a notebook, keep doing it, because paper is still one of the best ways to reflect.
On the days you don't have the energy to write, open Athlenote, press record and talk for up to three minutes about what happened, what worked and what's still on your mind. Your note is turned into text, saved to your timeline and tagged with the session or opponent, so you can read it again before your next game.

Mentors built on research into how the best in sport think
Before we built a single mentor, we studied how leading sport psychologists and performance coaches work with athletes on confidence, composure, focus, grit, self-esteem and team culture, and built each mentor around one of those areas.
When you record a note, your mentor doesn't just react to it. It replies with a considered reflection and a question to take into your next session, based on the approach behind that mentor.
Mentors are AI, not real people. Replies are written by AI models from OpenAI, guided by our own research and instructions. Mentors are not affiliated with or endorsed by any person or organisation, and they don't replace a coach, doctor or psychologist.
What will you tell yourself before the next game starts?
You unlock new mentors over time as you keep using Athlenote.
The same daily check‑in professional teams use
Professional sports teams have been asking athletes to rate their sleep, fatigue, soreness, stress and mood since the 1990s. A 2016 review in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that these simple self-reports track how athletes respond to training more consistently than many commonly used objective measures. FC Barcelona's Innovation Hub has written about using this kind of questionnaire with its youth players, and World Rugby recommends it in its coaching resources.
Athlenote puts that check-in on your phone. Rate five things each morning and you get a readiness score out of 100. Once you've checked in for two weeks, you also see how today compares to your normal.
Your score only reflects what you report. It isn't a medical reading or a prediction. Athlenote is not affiliated with FC Barcelona, World Rugby or any organisation mentioned.
Track your habits, goals and consistency
Most improvement comes from doing the basics day after day, so Athlenote shows you whether you're actually doing them. Three rings fill up each day as you check in, record a journal entry and complete your habits.
You set the habits and goals that matter to you. The calendar shows your sessions and notes together, and your stats show how your readiness, consistency and goals change over weeks and months. When you need to settle down before a session, there are guided breathing exercises and a meditation timer.
Your journal is private
What you record is for you. Your entries stay private to your account, we don't sell your data, and you can delete your account and everything in it from settings at any time. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian needs to give permission when you sign up.

The app
What is Athlenote?
A journal built for athletes. You record a voice note about your training or a game, it's turned into text and saved to your timeline, and an AI mentor replies with a reflection and a question to think about. It also has a daily readiness check-in, habits, goals and stats.
Which sports is it for?
Any sport, at any level. The mentors and check-ins are about how you think, prepare and recover, not about one particular sport.
I already keep a paper journal. Is Athlenote still for me?
Yes. Keep your notebook if it works for you. Athlenote is there for the days you'd rather talk than write, with your voice notes, check-ins and habits all in one place.
Do I need a smartwatch or wearable?
No. Everything in Athlenote comes from what you record and rate yourself.
How old do I need to be?
You need to be at least 13. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian needs to give permission when you sign up.
Mentors and AI
Is my mentor a real person?
No. Mentors are AI, and every reply is labelled so you always know. They're built around research into how leading sport psychologists and performance coaches work, but they aren't real people and aren't affiliated with or endorsed by anyone.
Which AI do you use?
Transcription and mentor replies use models from OpenAI. We send what's needed to transcribe your note and write a reply, along with our own mentor instructions.
How is this different from asking ChatGPT?
The underlying technology is similar, but a mentor isn't a blank chatbot waiting for a question. Each mentor follows a specific approach that we researched and wrote instructions for, and it replies to what you actually said about your session.
Can the AI get things wrong?
Yes. AI can misunderstand what you meant or suggest something that doesn't fit your situation. Treat a reply as something to think about, not an instruction. If a reply seems wrong, use the report button on it.
Health and safety
Is Athlenote medical or mental health advice?
No. Athlenote isn't a medical device or a therapist, and it doesn't replace your coach, doctor or psychologist. The readiness score only reflects what you tell it and can't diagnose anything or predict injury.
What if I'm going through something serious?
Athlenote isn't built for emergencies or crisis support. If you're in danger or thinking about hurting yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line straight away. In South Africa you can call the SADAG Suicide Crisis Line on 0800 567 567. Anywhere else, findahelpline.com lists free, confidential helplines.
Privacy
Who can see my journal?
Only you. Your entries are private to your account, and we don't sell your personal information.
Do you use my notes to train AI?
Athlenote doesn't train AI models on your entries. To transcribe your notes and write mentor replies, we send them to OpenAI, and OpenAI's own terms cover how it handles that data. Our Privacy Policy has the details.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Settings, then Account, then Delete Account. Your account and entries are deleted. You can also email hello@athlenote.com. More on deleting your account.
